Thursday June 1, 2023 - Mt Hermon Recon

Today's tasks are visiting our cousins Paul and Mary and getting a tour of the family farm, and doing a walking tour of my old high school, Mt Hermon. It's a beautiful sunny day and high of 92, but a cold front is coming in this weekend, so today is the day to tour the campus. Milo’s 50th reunion is this weekend so we drove down to Mt Hermon a day early to tour the campus without the crowd. What I discovered was that a lot of the buildings had changed names, some buildings were gone, and some buildings were new. I had not been here for 30 or 40 years so it shouldn't be a big surprise that things have changed.

I was dropped off here in 1969 in front of my dorm, Cottage 5, with a suitcase, a guitar, and some mail order clothes. It was a terrifying and exciting experience going to “prep school”.

We walked everywhere and talked to a couple of reunion people so tomorrow when the reunion actually starts we'll know where we're going.

After Mt Hermon we visited my grandfather's farm, now run by my cousin's kids. Paul and Mary, my cousins, gave us a very thorough tour. Amazing how much farming has changed in 50 years. They have computerized stuff along with lots of tractors and equipment that replaces a lot of the manual labor from way back when. They gave us some of their maple milk, coffee milk, and half and half. They have expanded into retail along with the usual organic wholesale markets. Their milk goes to Stonyfield, who makes organic yogurts.

Back to my brothers where he put some steaks on the grill and we had cocktails on the back porch as the sun set. Another nice day.
