f at a Dresden station further out of town from the main station, since they were behind schedule. A bit of grumbling from passengers but we all got off the train.
It was a nice day so we decided to walk the 40 minutes trek to our hotel, Barcelo Dresden Newa. At first we walked through a rundown part of town, but as we walked further we entered the old town and it was really lovely. We crossed the Elbe River and lots of people were out and about enjoying the gorgeous afternoon.
By the time we reached the hotel and checked in it was 3:15, and we’d made plans to meet Emily at a tram stop in the old town by 4:10. We met Emily, Alex, Jakob and Ellie and had a great walk through the old city with commentary from all of them about the various buildings. They’d been to a place for dinner that they liked, so we wandered back over the river and had a fun dinner outside, eating some good German food and drinking German beer and Austrian wine. All very fun to catch up and get a glimpse of their lives in Dresden. The kids are 12 and 10 years old and it was nice to hear about their schooling, as well as hear about Alex and Emily’s jobs. After dinner and some more walking we wandered to their tram stop, said our goodnights, and ambled back through the city to our hotel.
